Rick Brandt

Rick Brandt, 48, has been the CEO & President of family-owned BRANDT since 1995. A major force in BRANDT’s phenomenal growth and expansion, Rick has overseen the acquisition and integration of 15 companies during his tenure.

Rick is also Chairman & CEO of TradeMark Nitrogen in Tampa, FL. In 2010 Rick assumed 100% ownership of TradeMark and all of its assets. Since then, TradeMark has added many new production capabilities and experienced tremendous growth in markets outside of the Southeastern U.S. 

Son of BRANDT founder Glen Brandt, Rick joined the company in 1991 after graduating from the University of South Florida with a degree in Economics. He spent the next four years working as an assistant to then President, Gary Grossweiler, pitching in and learning about the business. When Grossweiler retired, Rick was named President and CEO.

From the Springfield, IL, headquarters, Rick oversees a global business with three complementary divisions, employing nearly 500 associates and generating more than $400 million in revenue. The Retail Agronomy division serves professional growers in Central Illinois through 24 retail locations. The Dealer Support division provides commodity products for a range of retail and industrial markets. And the Specialty Formulations division manufactures, distributes and markets products for the ag, turf, ornamental and aquatics markets.

BRANDT sells products in 45 countries around the world and in 48 American states. In 2009, Rick led the acquisition of Monterey AgResources. The largest BRANDT acquisition to date, that business extends the company’s reach into the lucrative California fruit, vegetable and specialty crop markets.

BRANDT has been named one of the Best Places to Work by the Springfield Business Journal and one of the country’s fastest growing companies by INC Magazine.

Mike Barry
President, TradeMark Nitrogen Corp.


After growing up on a farm in central Illinois, Mike completed his BA in Mathematical Systems at the University of Illinois-Springfield. Before switching his area of focus, Mike attended the University of Missouri at Rolla where he pursued a degree in Mining Engineering.

Mike has over 30 years of production, engineering, and managerial experience. Mike also holds numerous leadership positions in the agriculture industry, including his positions on the boards of BRANDT, the Florida Fertilizer and Agrichemical Association and the Georgia Plant Food and Educational Society.

Mike has been President at TradeMark Nitrogen since 2012. After three years, the facility has completely turned around. Mike’s value to the company is irreplaceable. His involvement in every single aspect of the organization is truly remarkable. His continuing goal is to have TradeMark be world class in all aspects of their operation.

Mike is happily married to his wife, Barb Barry, and is the father of three adult children, and proud grandfather to four girls and one boy. His hobbies include maintaining both fresh and saltwater aquariums as well as cooking on either the Big Green Egg or Weber grill.

Don Nelson
Controller, TradeMark Nitrogen Corp.


Don moved to Tampa in 1981 right after receiving his BA in Accounting from Delta State University in Mississippi. Post-graduation, Don worked in several different accounting and finance positions for Gardinier Chemical, a French based phosphate manufacturer and citrus grower. He worked for Gardinier until they were acquired by Cargill in 1985. After the acquisition they offered him a position in Minnesota which would require him to relocate from Tampa. Needless to say, moving from Tampa to Minnesota wasn't high on his list.

Don then started working for Transammonia, now Trammo, an international fertilizer broker headquartered in Tampa, FL. After a few years of working at Trammo, Don joined TradeMark Nitrogen in 1989, where he has now enjoyed working as their Controller for more than 25 years. As Controller, Don oversees the accounting, finance, credit, risk management, IT and Human Resources functions of TradeMark.

Outside of TradeMark, Don enjoys playing golf, traveling up to Tallahassee to see his daughter Jessica compete in her rowing competitions and spending time with his family. Don is also on the Scholarship Committee at the Florida Fertilizer and Agrichemical Association.

David Jarrett
Production Superintendent, TradeMark Nitrogen Corp.


David “DJ” Jarrett has been a member of the TradeMark team for almost 30 years. After High School, DJ went to Pensacola Christian College to become an engineer. After he realized that finishing school and sitting behind a desk wasn’t quite for him, DJ started his own pool company. After working in the pool business for a few years, DJ eventually accepted an offer to work at TradeMark Nitrogen.

Eager to learn every aspect of how the nitric acid and ammonium nitrate plant operated, DJ volunteered for every job that he could, eventually leading him to become Shift Supervisor. Throughout his career at TradeMark, DJ has made every product that TradeMark Nitrogen has produced, he has assisted in building the NPK program and is instrumental in all aspects of the acid plant. Now as Production Superintendent, DJ plans to make any improvement necessary around that the plant so that TradeMark Nitrogen is around for the long haul.

DJ, a sort of connoisseur of just about everything, loves to golf, fish, shoot sporting clays and hunt. DJ lives by the quote “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect,” Matthew 5:48. You can definitely see this reflected throughout every aspect of his life, both at home and in the office. DJ lives in Temple Terrace, FL, with his wife Marsha, his daughter Jordan, and sons Josh and Tanner. Tanner is also employed at TradeMark Nitrogen as their Solutions Operator/Production Assistant.

Alec Rusche
EHS Manager


Alec joined the TradeMark Nitrogen team in early 2017 as the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager. In keeping with TradeMark Nitrogen’s motto of “Safety is No Accident”, Alec strives to continue the journey of harboring the strong safety culture that has been developed here at TradeMark Nitrogen. By continuing to instill a sense a pride and ownership over the safety program, we will have a great journey together as a team.

Prior to relocating to Tampa, Alec worked in several industries from aerospace, metals smelting, and food processing due to a unique opportunity, working as the Safety Specialist for a maintenance company. Alec grew up in the Chicago-land area and studied Safety and Risk Management at Illinois State University. With the ideology of continuous improvement in mind, Alec will be pursuing his ASP & CSP certifications in the near future.

While in college, Alec became involved with volunteering for an animal rescue group. Adopting several dogs of his own over the years, this passion followed him to Tampa where he also volunteers for dog adoption events.

When he doesn’t have his hard hat on, Alec enjoys scuba diving, kayaking the beautiful springs of Florida, hiking with his dog and teeing up at the numerous golf courses that Florida is renowned for.

Miles Armstrong
Specialty Products Manager, TradeMark Nitrogen Corp.


Miles comes to TradeMark with an extremely fresh perspective. After finishing his internship with BRANDT in Springfield, IL, and graduating with his BS in Marketing Management from Virginia Tech, Miles joined the TradeMark Nitrogen team in Tampa, FL as their Marketing Manager in 2013.

Miles has been quick on his feet to learn how TradeMark operates and has brought a new liveliness to the TradeMark Nitrogen Management Team. In his second year on board, Miles has been very instrumental in the growth and development of the TradeMark brand in the agricultural and industrial chemical markets. As Marketing Manager, Miles, has developed TradeMark’s first-ever advertising campaigns for Magnesium Nitrate, Manganese Nitrate and Zinc Nitrate. He has also re-introduced the TradeMark brand into existing markets in the Southeastern U.S.

Known to consume a couple of platefuls of BBQ every now and then, Miles maintains a very active lifestyle in Tampa. Miles enjoys playing tennis, flag football, smoking various proteins on his Traeger grill and fishing on the Gulf of Mexico.

Matthew Parsons-Cohrs
Facility Engineer


A native of Tampa, FL Matt joined Trademark Nitrogen as the newest engineer of the team eager to bring new ideas and innovative technology to the facility. He graduated from the University of Florida in 2013 with a degree in chemical engineering and worked as a process engineer in Florida for 3 years before signing on with TradeMark as the Facility Engineer in 2016.

Matt hit the ground running at TradeMark learning the ins and outs of the Nitric Acid Plant while also working with the maintenance team to begin multiple projects. As a young engineer Matt is always looking for ways to improve the various processes at Trademark and how to integrate new technologies into the plant. Recently, Matt began wrapping up the installation of the new Copper Nitrate plant and completed the installation of a new 25,000 gallon storage tank.

When not on the job you can find Matt spending time at the beach, playing basketball, and grilling in his backyard. He also enjoys watching football and can be found most Saturdays cheering for “The Florida Football Team”, Go Gators!
